Why "Herstory":
Remember that tiny paragraph on the women's movement in your U.S. history book? The one-sentence descriptions on Rosalind Franklin, Coretta Scott King, and Eleanor Roosevelt? The absence of women on our currency and in commemorative spaces/public places?
We want to change that.
History is oftentimes narrowly framed accomplishments, success, and innovation in the context of *his* story -- the stories of men. Through this year's conference, Women SPEAK seeks to retell, recreate, and reclaim the powerful stories of women who have been critical in the formation of our world, our stories, and our communities -- the stories that have for far too long been quieted, silenced, and forgotten. We want to be part of reclaiming history to press for our stories as women and girls. Women SPEAK presents: Herstory.
